The Perfect Elopement Wedding: What you need to know from a florist

Elopement weddings have become increasingly popular in recent years. With the rising costs of traditional weddings, more and more couples are opting for an intimate ceremony with just their closest friends and family. However, just because elopements are smaller doesn't mean they have to be any less special. In fact, when you are equipped with the knowledge you need and a supportive team your elopement wedding can be a truly unforgettable experience.

Why Elopement Weddings Are So Special:

There's something truly romantic about elopement weddings. Without the pressure of a large guest list, tense family expectations, and spending thousands of dollars on details you don’t particularly care about, the focus stays entirely on you and the love you have for your partner. Many couples choose to elope because they want to keep their wedding day intimate and personal, allowing them to fully enjoy the moment without distractions.

The Importance of Finding an environmentally conscious florist :

As you plan your elopement wedding, it's important to consider the impact the flowers and plants you choose can have on the local environment. Native plants play a crucial role in all ecosystems, providing food and habitat for local wildlife and contributing to a stable and healthy environment. When someone brings seeded or non-native plants into an area, they can become invasive and disrupt the delicate balance of the ecosystem. This can harm not only local plants and animals, but also the water, soil, and air quality in the area.

Consider working with a local florist who specializes in native/ seasonal blooms or finding a florist who will spend a little extra time finding which flowers will work best in the area without harming the local environment. By choosing to work with native plants and flowers, you can help support the local environment and promote biodiversity. Local florals also require less water and fuel for transportation, making them a sustainable choice for your elopement wedding. By being mindful of the impact of your choices, you can help protect the natural beauty of the place where you'll exchange your vows.

Making Your Elopement Wedding Unforgettable:

Although elopements are much less maintenance than a 300-guest wedding - if there are details that matter to you then make sure you have someone you trust organizing. Unless it is a spontaneous, middle of the night, let’s just drive away type of elopement then there is still quite a lot of forethought that is involved. Nothing to be stressed about, but just to be aware of.

The biggest factor is location. Where will you be saying your vows? Does it require a hike? If your grandma is coming can she make that hike? If you are wanting flowers on tables or on an arch is there an easy way for your vendors to access that area?

As a traveling florist who specializes in elopements, I am happy for a bit of adventure! In order to execute my client’s vision though I do need a few pieces of information. I need a clear timeline with adequate time allowed for transporting florals to the site, I need to be generally aware of the weather conditions (wind speeds and tide levels), and if the wedding is in a location we are traveling to then I will need time to connect with wholesalers in that area. All of these elements are things that can be easily handled by an experienced florist, but it does help to have them in your mind as you start to think through your day.

At the end of the day, elopement weddings are all about celebrating love in its purest form.
